What is my "Journal for Learning"?

This is all very new to me....blogging and public self examination however my "Journal for Learning" is intended to be a journal of thoughts about and changes (hopefully) to my teaching practice in the context of "Assessment for Learning". I will be looking at specific parts of the BC Curriculum IRPs(Integrated Resource Packages) and how I can help guide students meet the PLOs (Prescribed Learning Outcomes). It is my hope that as a result, I will be better able to help my students be more aware of their learning and therefore better able to self assess, goal set and accomplish those goals.

Plans for the week

Despite the distractions of family, the Olympics, disappointing hockey outcomes and beautiful weather, I realize I must formulate a plan, so that I can self evaluate in a week.

Speaking Fluency Group
In at least one of the three classes (gr 2/3, 4/5 or 6/7), I hope to create an opportunity for students to play coach and speaker. First we will define some criteria for speaker, coach and pair behavior. Then based on that criteria, I will observe and note performance. Following the presentation, students will self-evaluate and take a moment to discuss my assessment. Then finally, set some goals for next time. Self-assessment and goals will be recorded in their daily exercise book.

Study Skills group
Begin with prepared self evaluation/review of the last lesson. Generate the class's criteria for a listener who successfully obtains information about assignments given in class by a teacher. Based on student's self evaluation (/10?) and the criteria developed, set some goals for the next week. Goals will be recorded at the bottom of the self-evaluation where future self-evaluations are given space.
